Numbering Errors

Sometimes something strange happens as plants are growing, and they end up with too many or too few petals. Or other parts, particularly sepals, develop as petals. Plants that normally have one flower per stalk (uniflora) may have more than one flower. Sometimes these oddballs are quite beautiful like the doubled mountain cat’s ear below; other times they are just odd like the weird trillium at Horsepasture Mountain.
